I am a nail polish fiend! I love the stuff.
I prefer to wear my natural nail, only problem is my nail polish keeps chipping. Someone recommended I use gel nail polish. It took me almost three months to decide but I finally gave it a try.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with gel nail polish. It’s a UV set nail polish that uses 4 coats, same as regular nail polish except each layer is set with UV heat. It comes highly recommended for the natural nail because it is less prone to chipping, it lasts up to two weeks and it fortifies the nail without the damaging effects of acrylics.
Here’s my personal review. It lasted all of 5 days before it began chipping but it did not chip as severely as regular nail polish. It did more of a lifting than chipping, which regular nail polish also does sometimes when you layer it thick. I lost a significant amount or all coverage on a total of 3 nails compared with regular nail polish that is 70% longer lasting coverage.

NLG: How long have you been a hair stylist?
Candra: I've been a stylist for 24 years and have worked professionally in a salon for about 22 years.
NLG: Where you are located?
Candra: I recently relocated from Phillidelphia to South Florida. However, As of 2011 I am no longer working as a salon stylist. Instead, I'm pursuing a career as an educator in cosmetology.
NLG: Do you have natural hair?
Candra: Yes, I have been natural for 11 years now.
NLG: So it's safe to say you went natural before the hype. (Insider)
NLG: How many natural hair clients do you have (if any)?
Candra: When I was in Philly I would say about 80% of my clients had natural hair.
NLG: It has been said that the average black stylist/salon does not know how to care for and style natural hair. Do you style natural hair and how true do you think this is for the average stylist?
Candra: Yes, I do and can style natural hair. I'm not sure how true this is for the average stylist. I can only speak from what
NLG: What inspired you to put on these events for the natural women in your community? Do you plan to do anymore in the near future?
Ashly: Ironically, at the same time in different locations and natural hair stages. We both realized that we saw absolutely no natural hair activities going on in Mississippi! We would watch YouTube videos of all these women forming meet ‘n’ greets and there was nothing for us to go to.
After being stopped in church, the grocery store, and other places so much and asked about hair care, products, and such we decided to have an actual conference for MS and the surrounding areas. I have to credit God for it. I was sitting on the couch watching television and the idea came, I called Lydia and she apparently had been playing with the idea so we took a chance and went for it.
Lydia: We have a lot planned for the future, which includes an internship program, seminars in select Boys and Girls Clubs and highschools, meet ‘n’ greets in various cities,
Because this interview was much too detailed to have just one part. Let's jump right into our recent interview with Lydia and Ashly, founders of Kingdom Curls championing the natural hair movement in Mississippi.
NLG: My friends and I like to say that Atlanta is a natural hair Mecca. There is a large concentration of newly transitioning natural women but you're in Mississippi. What's it like being natural in Mississippi. Are there a lot of natural women and are products relatively easy to find? How are other non-natural Mississippians embracing this trend of natural hair?
Lydia: You are absolutely right! Atlanta has it going on when it comes to natural hair. There are a good number of naturals in Mississippi, but nothing compared to what you see in Atlanta. As a natural living in Mississippi, I have received a good number of negative reactions. Sadly, they all come from African Americans. More Euro Americans seem to accept it and actually say they would like to have it.
Of course
There are a lot of women who are not a fan of wearing make-up. Some of us just can't seem to keep our hands out of our face so it's always getting smeared. Then there is the problem of having the eye shadow cake-up in the creases of the lid; that was before the discovery of primer. And last and certainly least of all, it was HELL trying to get it off at the end of the day.
Then you come up with some mixture of water and a bit of baby oil, it works well but leaves your face somewhat greasy. . .YUCK. Buy some expensive oil-free make-up remover from LoReal or Estee Lauder. . .NOT. Then one day, you happen upon the best make-up remover ever. Here let me show you.
Voila!
Here to kick off the first of our January MOBB features for twenty-twelve. Natural La Glam would like to introduce, Ms. Chanel Jaali owner of Jaali Co. *Cue the applause*
Jaali Co., LLC is an Atlanta based, multidimensional company specializing in sex education for adults. They offer themed parties, consulting, workshops, and extensive research. The purpose of the company is for people to achieve sexual freedom as well as sexual responsibility through comprehensive knowledge.
Why did you decide to start Jaali Co.?
As the founder, I, decided to start the company after realizing that even as adults, we are not as knowledgeable about sex and sexuality as we like to think we are. It is imperative that we have relevant and thorough information to rely on. And that's where Jaali Co., LLC steps in.
I believe that sex and sexuality should not be taboo, so she makes an effort to create a space in her parties and workshops where people feel like they can ask any and
Chrissie's Story
I have been natural for 2 years and 4 months. I started this last natural hair journey with a BC in August of 2009. Unfortunately, it was a result of extreme damage.
My hair was relaxed and I stupidly decided to get micro braids and kept them on for about 2 ½ months. When I took out the braids my hair became extremely tangled and matted forcing me to cut off the ends. No amount of conditioner used was going to help me avoid the scissors....and then I became scissor happy.
I cut all relaxed hair leaving me with about an inch of new growth on my head...and I fell in love with my natural hair! Now this was not the first time I decided to go natural, this is a process that I have gone through about 4 or 5 times throughout my life. It was never a serious thing to me, I saw it as just a new hair style. But this time is my last time and I won’t be going back to the creamy crack.
What is a common misconception about natural hair?
